Orpheum Theatre / Capacity

The Orpheum Theatre Group is serious about the safety of our guests. For the protection of our patrons, theatre managers and private security personnel are on duty for all performances. Patrons and their belongings are subject to inspection and metal detection upon entry.

In order to ensure the safety of our guests, purses, briefcases, and bags may be inspected upon arrival. Firearms, knives, and weapons of any kind are prohibited inside the theatre.

Dress Code

All guests must wear tops, bottoms, and shoes. Clothing MUST cover breasts, genitals, and buttocks.

The following items are prohibited from being brought inside the theatre: Weapons (this includes knives, pepper spray, and weapons accompanied by a valid CCW permit); Professional cameras and recording devices; Large bags, such as suitcases; Outside food and drink (this excludes water).

Performance Venues

The proscenium Lohrey Theatre now seats 411 and the black box Next Stage can seat up to 110, Both venues have state of the art equipment for sound and lighting.

Face Coverings shall be worn at all times by members of the public except as specifically exempted herein. Face Coverings are not a substitute for social distancing.

The Orpheum has hosted some of the most famous names in show business including burlesque queen Sally Rand, the Marx Brothers, Judy Garland, Will Rogers, plus jazz greats Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington.

Both stainless steel and titanium are fairly poor electrical conductors and will generally be missed by common metal detectors such as my Fisher Gold Bug. I have detected stainless eating utensils -a couple forks and a spoon - with the Gold Bug, but I have no small stainless pieces in my “found” collection.

Walk-through metal detectors use a low-level electromagnetic field to detect the presence of metal on a person's body or belongings. The electromagnetic field is generated by a coil of wire inside the metal detector, and is not harmful to human health.

Metal detectors have a tough time detecting metals like stainless steel, which have very poor electrical conductivity. Stainless steel has low magnetic permeability, which means it does not produce a signal strong enough to be detected. Other items that metal detectors won't be able to locate include: Gemstones.

There is no specific dress code. Please wear clothes that make you the most comfortable.

Casual shorts, sundresses, sneakers, flip-flops and short-sleeved shirts are acceptable just about anywhere. If you've got a pair of seersuckers shorts, you'll fit right in on the golf course or walking along the Mississippi River.

Uniform Policy. Students are required to dress in a manner that supports student safety and engagement. The basic uniform colors are tan, navy blue, and black for pants, capris, skirts, jumpers, and shorts.
