Crockpot Mac and Cheese
In addition to my love affair with my rice cooker, I am loving my slow cooker. Anything that I can do ahead of time on a busy day is a win in my book. I found a fantastic macaroni and cheese recipe that tastes great. All that gooey cheesiness! How could you go wrong? Plus since it’s in the slow cooker, you can throw it all in and walk away pretty much until it’s done. Win/win.
How to Make Mac and Cheese:
There is the boxed kind, a baked version and this crockpot mac and cheese. All of them have their place. I actually love the blue box kind (even though I know lots of people who cook a lot can’t stand it)… But this version is great on a busy day where you can throw all of the ingredients in a slow cooker and come back to it later. For this recipe you need:
- milk
- evaporated milk
- kosher salt
- pepper
- elbow macaroni
- butter
- sharp cheddar cheese
- velveeta cheese
- crockpot
In order for it reach the creamy texture, you need to stir it every once in awhile. But that takes about five seconds. This is perfect for a day that you have a lot to do around the house but don’t want to spend an hour in the kitchen to make dinner.

I’m so excited to try this! I’m a university student living in a dorm, and I only have access to a microwave and a slow cooker. I love mac and cheese, so hopefully this turns out!

That tortellini sausage soup looks so good, but there’s no link!

Over rich mush. Photos look good, mac and cheese underwhelming.

Has anyone tried this with gluten free noodles, and it turn out alright? If so, what brand and kind of pasta did you use? I have to do gluten free for my hubby but I don’t know if it would work with this recipe. Would hate for it all to go to waste if it didn’t turn out. Thanks.

Hi! I’m planning to make this one tonight! What size crockpot do you use though? I just purchased mine and I’m just so excited to get using it but I’m so new to it so I don’t want to mess this one up.

I want to try all of these recipes.

I made the mac and cheese. My noodles turned to mush after 2 hours on low which was too bad cause the cheese sauce would of been good.
Crystal says
You have to stir it every 1/2 hr or so. To separate the noddles. If not it does turn into one big mushy clump. Tried it a few times to get it right.
Brian says
I did it today and stirred every 20 minutes and it became mushy shortly after the two hour mark. Flavors are good but the texture is bad.

What size crock pot do you use?

This looks delish! How many does this recipe serve? What size crock pot do you use? I am considering making it for a large group…do you think it’d still work well in a larger portion? Thanks :)

I have been looking for a slow cooker mac and cheese recipe that 1. I don’t have to cook the pasta before hand and 2. used real cheese, because, like you said, I always have that in my fridge!

I’ve never thought to make mac and cheese in the slow cooker. Great idea for the summer when I don’t like to run my oven. Plus, there’s cream cheese and that’s always fine by me :)

I need more slow cooker recipes with spring sports season starting. Thanks for this marvelous macaroni recipe! Way simpler than the last version my son and I made. I am a huge rice cooker fan too. :)

So it is unclear to me if for the Zesty Chicken, do you make the zesty dressing into the liquid form or do you just put the seasoning packet into the crockpot? I think I made it last time just sprinkling the packet on. This time I will make it up and pour it in. What did you do?
Cherries says
I made the dressing up according to the package directions. It was sooooooo delicious! One of my favorites! <3
