During the holidays our family loves making treats to eat and give to other friends and families. These are some great Christmas foil tins to use if you plan to make up the Christmas Chex mix recipes with M & M’s.

This is also a great Chex M & M pretzel mix to send along with your kids for their school parties! Our kids are always excited to bring this and share it with their friends. And of course, they ask for me to make it during our family nights.

White Chocolate Chex mix made with almond bark (or white chocolate candy coating) is definitely one of my favorites to make during the holiday, but we have so many more great recipes to try!

A few more of our favorites to try during the holidays are our Chewy Chex Bars Recipe, Muddy Buddies, and Pecan Pie Chex Mix.

  • Corn Chex

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEX PARTY MIX

Begin by using a VERY large bowl (think the biggest one you have – or even two medium-sized bowls if you don’t have a huge one) and combine together the bag of pretzels, cheerios, corn Chex, peanuts (mixed nuts work too) and the M & M’s. Set this aside until later.

Then using a separate microwave-safe bowl, pour in the bag of white chocolate chips and the vegetable oil and microwave it on high for 60 seconds. Take the bowl out of the microwave and stir the white chocolate chips and vegetable oil together.

Return the white chocolate mixture to the microwave and put it on high for another 30 seconds. Take the bowl out of the microwave (careful the bowl will be hot) and stir.

If the white chocolate mixture is completely melted and smooth then it is good to go. If not, return it to the microwave for another 10-15 seconds and then stir. Repeat this process until the chocolate is smooth.

Grab the large bowl of cereal and M & M’s mixture and pour the melted white chocolate mixture over the cereal and mix it until everything is fully covered. Then using two large baking sheets like THIS, spread the cereal mix and let it cool.

PRO TIP: If it seems to be taking a little while for the cereal mix to cool down, pop the baking sheets into the fridge for 15 minutes and then it will be set up perfectly.

After the white chocolate Chex party mix has cooled, break it into chunks and store it in an airtight container.

NOTE: You can make this Christmas Chex mix recipe with M & M’s ahead of time, 1-2 days is ideal as after that it will not be as fresh.

If you would like the melt the white chocolate in another like double boiling, take a look at THIS article from Delish.com. They have some great tips.

  1. Jennifer fay says:

I love any type of chex mix this time of year. So far I have done the ones from the box, but homemade is best.

  2. Alyssa says:

I'm making this right now! I used pb capt. crunch instead of cheerios because that's all we had in the house... I can't wait to try it!!

  3. Alison says:

Thanks for idea of Cap'n Crunch Alyssa. I need to omit the pretzels for a family member who can't have wheat and that sounds perfect.

  4. Cyd says:

Milk chocolate works great too! YUM!

  5. Julie says:

I used 1/4 C. peanut butter instead of the vegetable oil and it was delicious!!!

  6. Sheila chapman says:

Thid is what I have been looking for I think I might add marshmellows too but chocolate flavored

  7. Liv says:

I'm excited to make this for my 2nd graders for our winter party! I have one kiddo who is diabetic. Do you have a carbohydrate count for one serving? I am doing exactly as the recipe states! Thanks.

  8. Cyd says:

Hi Liv, if you click on the MAGIC button under the picture, then click on NUTRITION it will give you all of the nutritional information on that recipe. It's our sister site - MyRecipeMagic.com. The nutrition is if you get 20 servings out of the recipe. If you get more servings out of it, then the carb count would be lower. I hope this helps!

  9. Liv says:

Yay! Thank you! I am so very excited :)

  10. Sharon says:

How far in advance can this be made and still taste fresh/crispy?

  11. Kathy says:

I need to make this two days ahead of when I need to serve it. Is this something I can freeze or what do you suggest? Should I just keep it in airtight containers until I need them? I just want to know how fresh it will be into days.

  12. Cyd says:

Store it in an airtight container and it will be fine for about 5 days! (store away from heat)

  13. Cyd says:

Hi Sharon, You can make this ahead of time and store in an airtight container. We have stored it up to 5 days, and you could possible go a little longer. Just store it away from heat, preferably in a cooler place.

  14. Laura says:

How long does it take to harden? I followed the recipe to the T and it's been sitting out an hour and it's still pretty gooey.

  15. Cyd says:

Stick it in the fridge for 15 minutes and you'll be great!

  16. Rj says:

I am about to start this and instead of using 5 cups of each cereal I am using 5 cups of one and 2 1/2 cups of 2 other kinds I used fruit loops, rice chex and honey nut chireos

  17. sue says:

For a nut allergy, I would skip the nuts(obviously.... ha ha!!!), add corn chips, maybe sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds, and use Smarties nut free line. Looks amazing!

  18. Cheryl says:

Make sure that your microwave is high enough wattage to melt the chocolate chips. I ended up having to melt the chocolate on the stove in a double boiler which made it MUCH longer to prepare and much more labor intensive. Tastes great after all the work!

  19. jan says:

I use half peanut butter chips/ half white chocolate and it is a big hit!

  20. Gina says:

Did your m &m melt when you added the white chocolate? This seemed to happen when I did

  21. Cyd says:

Hi Gina, we have not had a problem with our M & M's melting. You could wait a few minutes before adding the white chocolate, or add your M & M's at the very end.

  22. Crissy says:

Do you think this would be ok as a take home snack in a cellophane goody bag for a kids school party? I'm worried it might melt and stick to the inside of the bag.

  23. Cyd says:

We give this away to neighbors all the time at Christmas. It's works great in a goody bag. It won't melt unless you live somewhere that is hot. This chex mix sets up really well.

  24. Eva says:

I need to omit peanuts all together. What other nut do you recommend?

  25. Cyd says:

You could easily use pecans or almonds in this White Chocolate Chex Party Mix.

  26. Susan says:

I watched the video recently so ran out to get the ingredients. I used peanut butter/chocolate cheerios, peanut butter Chex (new and fabulous!), Reece’s mini pieces, mini pb cups, broken in half pretzel sticks and almond bark. Sooo yummy!!
