Follow this free crochet pattern to learn how to crochet an adorable daisy granny square blanket. A perfect crochet blanket for spring.
There’s nothing more special than when a close friend or family member asks you to make something for them. That’s what happened to me a couple of months ago.
My first cousin was pregnant with her first baby and she asked if I would make her a daisy-themed baby blanket to match her nursery. I, of course, said yes and we immediately started picking the perfect yarn colors.
I shared updates on social media and so many crocheters were asking for the pattern so here it is friends!
There are already lots of daisy granny square blanket patterns on the internet. Probably dating as far back as the ’60s, if not earlier!
This pattern is just how I made my blanket. Honestly, there are probably more professional patterns out there you could follow, so if you don’t like this one a quick Google or Pinterest search should find what you’re looking for.

Daisy Granny Square Blanket Pattern
Finished Dimensions: 32″ by 39″
Materials
Worsted weight yarnin Mustard (1) , Ivory (2) , and Sage (4)
5.0mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Stitch markers or scrap yarn
Stitch Key (US Terms)
CH= Chain
SC= Single Crochet
DC= Double Crochet
HDC= Half Double Crochet
POP= Popcorn Stitch (explained below)
SL ST= Slip Stitch
Popcorn Stitch:DC 4 times in the space, remove your hook from your working yarn, insert your hook into the top of the first DC, grab your working yarn, and pull through. If you need more help please watch the free video that goes with this pattern.
Magic Circle: We will be using the Magic Circle method in this pattern. If you are unfamiliar please watch the free video tutorial that goes with this pattern.
Daisy Granny Square
Make 42
Using your H hook and Mustard color yarn
Row 1: CH 3 (does not count as stitch) DC 12 times into the center of a magic circle. Join into the top of the first DC, change color to Ivory yarn. CH 3.
The CH 3 made with your Ivory yarn counts as your first DC in your first POP petal.
Row 2: POP, CH 1 in each stitch around for a total of 12 POP stitches with chains.
These are our daisy flower petals.
Join into the top of your first POP. Change color to green.
Row 3: Chain 3. (this counts as our last DC in the last corner of this square)
*3 HDC in the first chain space after the first POP stitch. Chain 1.
3 HDC in the next chain space. CH 1.
Corner: 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC, CH 1. *
Repeat around ending in the last corner. Your first CH 3 for this row counts as your last DC in the last corner.
Join into the top of the CH 3 space. CH 3.
The CH 3 you just did counts as your first DC in this row.
Row 4: Place 2 more DC in the CH space right next to your CH 3.
CH 1.
3DC in the next chain space, CH 1. * Repeat in the next CH space.
Corner: 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC, CH 1.
Repeat around putting 3 DC CH 1 in each CH 1 space from Row 3 and 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC, CH 1 in each corner.
Join into the top of your chain 3 and tie off.
Gently sew in all your tails except for the very last one. I like to leave those till the end so I can make sure all my squares are facing the correct way.
Square measures about 4″ by 4″ unblocked. Feel free to block them if you prefer. After I blocked mine my squares are about 4.25″.
Blanket Assembly
Pro tip: I am much better at explaining this in the video. There’s a chart and everything.
To assemble our squares we will be using a Join As You Go method. (JAYG)
Starting with your first square, join Sage yarn into the left CH 2 space in the top right corner.
SC across the top of your square putting your first SC in the same space where you just joined your yarn.
SC in the left corner of your square and place a stitch marker in that stitch.
SC 21 going down the left side of your square putting your first SC in the CH space right next to the corner stitch you just created.
Grab your second square. (make sure it’s facing the same way as your first square)
We are going to SC 21 up the right side of your second square while connecting it to our first square.
Make your first SC in the CH stitch in the bottom right corner of your square.
Remove your hook from your working yarn. Insert your hook into the 21st SC from your first square.
Grab your working yarn and pull through.
We are going to do that for every stitch. SC in the second square then join it to the first square.
After you JAYG 21 stitches, place a SC in the corner of your second square and attach it to the corner stitch (with the stitch marker) of your first square.
Continue to SC across the second square for 21 stitches (plus a corner stitch) down for 21 stitches then JAYG back up the next square for 21 stitches. Add your corner stitch and repeat until you have 6 squares joined together.
After you SC 21 down the left side of your last square, place a SC in the corner then put a stitch marker there so you know where it is.
Now we are going to SC all the way back down the row of squares we just created. Including the corner stitch we just placed (marked with the yellow stitch marker in the picture above) we will have 137 SC total.
SC 21 across the bottom of the first square. (your first SC goes into the CH space)
Now we are going to place 2 extra SC stitches, one on each of the JAYG seem that was created. Put a stitch marker in both of those stitches so we know they are extra and not a part of the original 21 stitches.
Our first row of 6 daisy granny squares is complete! Onto the second row.
Grab your 7th square, make sure its facing the same way as your other squares and JAYG SC to the 6th square.
Place a SC in the corner and JAYG attach it to the first extra stitch you have. For me its the purple stitch marker.
SC 21 down the side of your 7th square.
Grab your 8th square and JAYG attach it to the side of the 7th square and the bottom of the 5th square.
Continue following these instructions to attach all your squares. Here is a chart that might make it easier. If you are having trouble please refer to the video that goes with this pattern.
SC across the bottom of your blanket like you are getting ready to attach another row of squares. We’re not, but SC it like you are 😉
SC up the right side of your blanket, just like you did across the bottom. Be sure to put stitch markers in the extra 2 stitches you added where the joins are.
Place your corner stitch in the corner (I like to mark mine with a scrap piece of yarn), join into the top of your first stitch. CH 1.
Now all 4 sides of your blanket have a different number of stitches. It’s not wonky, it just has different numbers of stitches because 2 sides have stitches that account for the join, and two sides don’t. The spaces for the stitches are still there though, so the blanket is still symmetrical.
Now we are going to do a full row of border SC stitches.
I explain this much better in the video that goes with this pattern.
During this row, we will be putting 4sc stitches in each corner stitch. 1 of the 4 counts as a stitch for that edge of the blanket and the other 3 are added as increases. This will give us a total of 606 stitches in the row.
Both short sides will have 137 stitches and both long sides will have 160 stitches.
We will need to add stitches to the two sides that do not have stitches where the joins are. This is the top edge and the left side edge (marked in blue in the picture below)
The other two sides (marked in pink) already have the correct number of stitches. You should have stitch markers along these sides to help you know.
To do this, place 2 extra stitches between each square. So the top side will have 10 extra stitches added and the left side will have 12 extra stitches added.
Here is a picture where I put the 2 extra stitches between each square.
SC around, join into the top of your first SC and tie off.
Pro Tip: I sewed in all my tails and blocked my blanket after this step.
Attach your Ivory color yarn for the shell stitch border.
* Skip the first 2 stitches from your hook, 5 DC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, SLST in the next stitch.*
Repeat that all the way around until you are back to the beginning, tie off and sew in your tails.
Now you have a beautiful crochet daisy granny square blanket!
