Easy Fried Apple Pies Recipe
If there’s ever an All-American dessert, it’s apple pie. Rightly so, it’s so darn delicious and a dessert that bakers of all skill levels can master. Whether it’s a stuffed crust skillet apple pie, mini caramel apple pies made in a muffin pan or apple pie biscuits, you’d be hard pressed to find a less than enthusiastic eater. At our table, anyway. This recipe shows you how to make fried apple pies with canned biscuits. These deep fried apple pies could also be adapted to an air fryer, too. See the Cook’s note for instructions.
How to Make the Best Easy Fried Apple Pies Recipe
- Ingredients you’ll need to make homemade Fried Apple Pies: Canned biscuits, Granny Smith apples, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, apple pie spice or ground cinnamon, cornstarch for thickening the pie filling and vegetable or canola oil for frying.
- Kitchen gadgets you’ll need: An apple corer and peeler, a sharp knife and chopping board, measuring cups and spoons, a non stick surface or pastry mat to assemble the fried apple pies, a saucepan and deep pot for cooking the filling and frying, a fry thermometer and a stainless steel spider or slotted spoon to remove the pies from the oil. It’s also helpful to have nearby a baking pan or platter lined with paper towels.
- I chose to use Granny Smith apples for the filling, but you can certainly adapt using your favorite apple or the variety you have on hand. The flavor may be altered slightly but the main thing to consider is the cooking time. Different varieties may cook more quickly than Granny Smith apples.
- I used Grands Southern Style biscuits for this recipe. You can use any similar private label brand or use any brand that you like.
- To save time the pie filling can and really should be, prepared in advance and chilled until assembling the pies. Cold pie filling will result in less oozing from the pie crust while frying.
- If you’d like to make smaller hand pies, divide each biscuit through the middle and use less filling. When doing so, a flaky-style biscuits will pull apart more easily.
- You can also drizzle these pies with caramel, or make a quick cream glazed, if preferred.
- Store leftover fried apple pies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Air Fryer Fried Apple Pies Recipe
Cooking times can vary slightly depending on if your appliance is a basket style air fryer or an oven style. Know your appliance and make needed changes to adapt.
